7 Reasons Every Christian Should Read Through the Entire Bible

ree

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to truly immerse yourself in the entirety of God’s Word? To not just skim the familiar parts but to embrace every chapter and verse, even the ones that feel daunting or unfamiliar? Reading through the entire Bible can seem like a big commitment, but the rewards are far greater than we often imagine.

If you’ve been thinking about starting this journey, know this: you’re not alone, and it’s worth it. Let me share seven reasons why this might just be one of the most life-changing things you do as a believer.

  1. See God's Story from Beginning to End

The Bible isn’t just a collection of random stories; it’s a beautiful, interconnected narrative of God’s redemptive plan for humanity. From the very first words in Genesis—“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)—to the triumphant promise of a new creation in Revelation (Revelation 21:1-4), every part of Scripture reveals a God who is faithful, loving, and sovereign.

When you read the entire Bible, you begin to see how each book fits into the bigger picture of God’s story, and more importantly, how your own story fits into His.

  1. Discover Who God Really Is

Do you ever wonder what God is really like? The Bible is where we encounter His heart. As you read, you’ll see His power in creation, His mercy in forgiving sinners, His justice in standing against evil, and His love in sending His Son to redeem us.

Scripture reminds us, “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love” (Psalm 103:8). Every book of the Bible offers a glimpse of God’s character, helping us know Him more personally and love Him more deeply.

  1. Find Guidance for Life's Challenges

Life is hard, isn’t it? We all face seasons of uncertainty, pain, and questions that don’t have easy answers. But God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).

When you read the whole Bible, you discover timeless wisdom for every situation. Whether you’re struggling with a decision, battling discouragement, or searching for purpose, I guarantee you, scripture has something to say to or about your situation. And it’s not just advice—it’s truth you can stand on.

  1. Strengthen Your Faith

Reading through the entire Bible builds a faith that’s rooted and unshakable. It’s like planting seeds of truth in your heart that grow over time. When you read stories of God parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14), Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:39), or Paul persevering in trials (2 Corinthians 11:23-27), you’re reminded that the same God who worked in their lives is at work in yours too.

Paul encourages us: “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

  1. Develop a Balanced and Mature Understanding of Scripture

The Bible is wonderfully diverse, containing history, poetry, prophecy, and letters. Each book offers a unique perspective, and together they create a rich, balanced view of God’s truth.

By reading the entire Bible, you’ll not only deepen your understanding but also avoid taking verses out of context. You’ll discover the harmony between the Old and New Testaments and gain a clearer picture of God’s eternal purposes.

  1. Draw Closer to God

Have you ever felt distant from God? Spending time in His Word is one of the best ways to draw near to Him. Through Scripture, He speaks to us, comforts us, and reveals His plans for our lives.

The Holy Spirit through the Apostle James reminds us, “Come near to God, and He will come near to you” (James 4:8). As you read, you’ll sense His presence in ways that transform your heart and your walk with Him.

  1. Be Encouraged in Every Season of Life

One of the most beautiful things about the Bible is its ability to meet us right where we are. Whether you’re celebrating, grieving, struggling, or thriving, God’s Word offers hope and encouragement.

The psalms remind us that God is our refuge (Psalm 46:1), the gospels reveal His deep love for us (John 3:16), and Revelation assures us of His ultimate victory (Revelation 21:4). No matter what you’re going through, God’s Word is a source of strength and comfort.
